Textile Talks: Love You to Pieces, Sock Monkeys & More

I love any chance to connect with fellow makers and textile lovers! I recently had the absolute pleasure of being a guest on Textile Talks, a weekly online lecture series dedicated to preserving and celebrating textile history through conversations with artists, makers, and scholars. During my appearance, I shared details about the online bonus content in my new book, Love You to Pieces: A Gift of Friendship, which includes quilt history and original patterns for Sock Monkey, Yo-Yo Clown and Sunshine Polly dolls.

The Textile Talks series is presented each Wednesday by Quilt Alliance, International Quilt Museum, Studio Art Quilt Associates, and Surface Design Association.

Nearly 400 people tuned in live for the talk—wow! I was truly honored by the warm response and grateful to be part of a program that creates space for learning, sharing, and celebrating our rich textile heritage. If you weren’t able to join us live, you can still watch the full replay above. I’d love for you to pour a cup of tea, settle in, and enjoy the conversation.

While you’re here, I’ve gathered everything we chatted about during the Textile Talks conversation in one easy place. You’ll find helpful links, added inspiration, and a few discount codes for Love You to Pieces and my workshops.

Sock Monkey Love

During the conversation, I shared stories from my vintage collection, talked about what inspired Love You to Pieces, and reflected on how textiles have a way of connecting generations. One especially meaningful moment was sharing a photo of the sock monkeys my mom made for my nieces and nephews using the pattern from the book. Those monkeys carry so much love and nostalgia, and it was really touching to see how many people connected with that story.

I’m so grateful to Quilt Alliance and all of the other presenting partners for the opportunity to share Love You to Pieces and the stories behind it. Connecting with so many people who care deeply about textiles, history, and making was truly meaningful.

Happy stitching,
