Make A Upcycled Fold & Go Folio with Treasured Threadz!

Hi Everyone! Today I am excited to show you one of my newest patterns, the Fold & Go Folio! This is a quick and fun sewing project that offers tons of customization options and is perfect for fat quarters, layer cakes and scraps of your favorite fabrics. I’m going to share with you some of my favorite Folios that we have made using my new faux patchwork and colleged fabric collection, Treasured Threadz™, combined with some upcycled fabrics that you likely have laying around the house.

The eclectic mix of prints and patterns within the Treasured Threadz™ fabric panels really lends itself to small projects like the Fold & Go Folio pattern. This compact folio offers two sizes and is great for mixing and matching your favorite fabric prints.

The interior options are where this project gets really fun. This Folio has multiple interior customization items such as mini drawstring bags, pockets or felt keepers.  Depending on the options you choose, It can be used for jewelry, sewing notions, or even tech accessories!

These Fold & Go Folios were made for sewing notions and I LOVE how they turned out. We used the Treasured Threadz™ Roses and Daisies panel and a blue and cream vintage ticking for the lining. Since this version was made for sewing, we added a felt needle keeper, loops for spools of threads, coordinated drawstring bags for buttons and a sleeve for your travel scissors!

As you can see, the floral patterns of the Roses and Daisies panel really lend themselves to embroidery embellishment – you can simply follow the flower edges like we did or add more decorative stitches to each area. If you want to embellish, I recommend using the Treasured Threadz™ Favorite Fusible to provide some nice stability for embroidery, no hoop needed!

If you aren’t interested in embroidery, don’t worry! The colors of vintage ticking pair so nicely with all of my Treasured Threadz™ fabric designs that the panel will look great all on its own. There are still plenty of ways to personalize your Folio….

One of my favorite parts of making a Fold & Go Folio is fussy cutting the little drawstring bags – you can pick your favorite part of the fabric to highlight. Look at how we picked out some special Treasured Threadz™ Roses and Daisies flowers on the bags above!  I love using a Clover drawstring Bodkins tool to help me make my bags.

Check out this fun video that highlights the Clover Bodkins and some other great Clover tools.

If you also love Ticking and want to learn more about its history – check out my Vintage Modern Makers Ticking Primer. It’s full of videos and inspiration, including a pattern for the Stars and Stripes Pillow made from up-cycled denim and of ticking fabrics. I’ll tour you through my vintage collections of ticking stripes, explain the difference between woven vs. printed – and so much more!

I hope you are feeling inspired! Don’t forget, a Fold & Go Folio pattern purchase also includes a bonus Look Book with over 25 pages of fabric and styling suggestions.
