QuiltCon Part One: DIY Jean Jackets

Amy photo with friends Beth and Angie at QuiltCon wearing her Jean Jacket embellished with Treasured Threadz™ Quilt Con Recap - Amy + People
Hi everyone! Wow, what a whirlwind few weeks it has been! I can’t believe how exhausted AND energized I am at the same time…. QuiltCon is one of my favorite events of the year – its always a great gauge of industry trends and so creatively inspiring.  I loved seeing some Kansas City friends (Beth Gude and Angela Fry) in Raleigh and their fabulous quilt coats. If I saw you there, it was great to meet you!
And now you might be asking, Amy, what IS one of the biggest trends happening right now? Here’s a hint… I was demoing it in the Oliso booth with my new Treasured Threadz line I developed with Colonial Patterns… can you guess?

You got it! EMBELLISHED JEAN JACKETS! I’ve been seeing this trend for a while, but I think it’s about to explode into the mainstream. With so many people having a renewed interest in sustainability, upcycling and thrifting – this trend makes sense in every way. Take your favorite new or vintage basic, and customize to your heart’s content! I know, I know… enough stalling, let’s take a look at some of the incredible jean jackets I saw at QuiltCon….

Can you believe these jackets?!  Each one is a true work of art. All of these ladies had incredible crafts(wo)manship and a wonderful story to share. It was a joy talking to each and every one of them as they came by the Oliso booth. I tried to get eveyone’s name for design credit. The middle jacket is a Lorriane Woodruff-Long design and the far right was created by Shannon Lookenott of Butterfly Threads Studio.

Her Jean Jacket embellished with a vinatge applique and emboidered quote from RGB.

I loved Maddie’s jacket, the quote reads: Women belong in all the places where decisions are being made. Vote, Vote, Vote, when there are nine-RBG.

Treasured Threadz™ Demo with the new M3Pro Project Iron

Here was my demo display at QuiltCon. I loved sharing the new M3Pro Project Iron with my signature applique techniques for jean jacket embellishment. I hope this has you feeling inspired to create your own work of art. My new Treasured Threadz™ Favorite Fusible is the perfect product for adding decorative patch applique to your jacket. Whether you use one of the five Treasured Threadz™ Patchwork faux patchwork or collaged art fabric panels or you grab fabric from your stash. Sharing your love of textiles and quilting in the fashion you wear is so much fun! Maybe I’ll get to see your Jean Jacket at next year’s QuiltCon! I’m already counting down the days….
