The past several weeks following the launch of my new book, Vintage Notions, have been a whirlwind of activity. I am just now getting back off the road and am going to be catching up on my blog posts, I promise!
However, as I was sitting here, collapsed in my chair from the exhaustion (albeit, exhilarating exhaustion) of being on the road, I received this lovely note from a reader I thought I would share:
I ordered your book for myself and after turning five pages I went to my computer and ordered another for my best friend. She and I have known each other our entire lives as our Mothers were also best friends from the age of four. We have not lived close to each other in almost 30 years but we have stayed close through our love of fabrics and sewing and buttons, and each other of course! I knew she would love your wonderful book as I do.
One day I sat with my Vintage Notions and a cup of coffee and I thought of her. I picked up the phone to call, mostly we e-mail as work and busy families don’t always afford us the same “break-time”, but as I called she too was sitting down with her book. Seems after all these years apart we are still as close as ever!
Thank you for this wonderful book, we just love it!”
This is why I wrote the book! I wanted readers to identify with the material so much that they were driven to share it with friends and family alike, to talk about memories and make new ones. This is what reading Mary Brooks Picken did for me. Reading her writings made me want to share her – and her wisdom – with others. Thank you “Louise” for sharing this with me.
I’d love to hear about the memories that Vintage Notions brings back for you and the stories you’ve shared with others.
