My Passions – Writing

My Passions

Amy BarickmanSome of my favorite writers are people who discovered something, developed a passion for it and then had to share it with the world: writers like Julia Child and my new-found hero, Mary Brooks Picken. Like them, I did not set out to be a writer but became one along the way. As I began publishing the work of talented designers, I realized that many topics deserved a more in-depth look. My first book, Forever Yours: Wedding Quilts, Clothing and Keepsakes, was written in 1997 and features craft projects that were developed for my own wedding. I have published over 80 titles since then, covering a wide range of topics from needle felting to computer crafts. My most recent books have combined my love of craft with my passion for vintage objects; Hankie Style and Buttonware are both based on refashioning flea market finds. With my latest book, Vintage Notions, I have been able to explore the combined themes of craft and history more fully and it allows me the pleasure to reintroduce the writing of Mary Brooks Picken.

I will continue to write just as I will continue to seek out new and exciting design. After all, I have to share what I find with you.
