Get Inspired With These Project Ideas!

Back in April, I did a really fun collaboration with Therm O Web and shared my Treasured Threadz™ Collection along with some of my favorite HeatnBond fusible products to create upcycled fashion featuring a Free Pattern: Heart to Art.  The super creative Therm O Web Design Team created some projects with them too! And… oh boy, did they deliver. I can’t wait to show you some of the AMAZING ways they used Treasured Threadz™…….

Today I am going to highlight several projects, all using different panels, and all of which are totally different! It just shows how versatile these panels are – if you can imagine it, you can make it with Treasured Threadz™.

Treasured Threadz™ Postage Stamp Retro Patchwork Panel

The first project is by Lisa Summerhays and she made the cutest, quilted Boxy Zipper Pouches. I can’t get over them! She used the larger patchwork print and the block size was the exact measurement she needed for the project. What a perfect way to make use of the grid! Quilting this panel is super easy when you just follow the pattern lines – it looks like you spent hours, but, don’t worry, we won’t tell anyone that it didn’t. The Treasured Threadz Favorite Fusible Stabilizer, SpraynBond Basting Adhesive and Fabric Fuse Quick Bond Fabric Adhesive really helped make this project go smoothly.

The next two bag projects use my Around the World Collage Panel and the Missouri Star Blue Patchwork Panel and I just adore them both. They are both incredible examples of how to use Treasured Threadz™ for upcycling an unused or thrifted garment – in this case, denim jeans!

Treasured Threadz™ Around the World Collage Panel

For this upcycled handbag, by Deb Zaleski, she used an outdated pair of jeans and merged them with the Around the World Panel and, boy, did it make them both look good! Deb did an amazing job with her fabric placement and really emphasized how important planning is when using panels or bigger prints. Careful pre-planning is always the best way to get the most out of your fabric and the garment you are upcycling. Don’t forget about the details –  she added a ferris wheel and appliqued it to the gusset with the help of some HeatnBond Lite Iron-On Adhesive the fabulous M3Pro Project Iron from Oliso. Love it!

The last amazing project is from Julia Schweri from Inflorescence Designs. Her Recycled Jean Grocery Bag is a functional work of art! Like me, Julia really embraces the upcycling of unused textiles – for this she used 2 pairs of old jeans and the Treasured Threadz Missouri Star Blue Patchwork Panel.  This panel is my favorite to pair with denim – the range of blue colors are a perfect match to any shade of new or vintage denim.

Treasured Threadz™ Missouri Star Blue Patchwork Panel

This bag came together with a few easy straight stitches and a combination of a few Heatnbond products like the HeatnBond Fabric Fuse Liquid Adhesive, HeatnBond Fabric Fuse PeelnStick Fabric Adhesive Tape and HeatnBond Hem Iron-On Adhesive Tape. Julia also recorded a great tutorial for this project – check it out!

I’d like to say THANKS again to the Therm O Web Design Team – I was just floored by the creativity and design of their projects. There are a few more amazing projects over on the Therm O Web blog – I hope you take a minute to check it out!

My new Treasured Threadz™ collection is a partnership with Colonial Patterns and truly is the culmination of my love for vintage textiles and passion for recycling fabrics. There are five Treasured Threadz™ fabric panels to choose from, each designed into original works of art using my collection of rare vintage art, textiles and quilts.  Each panel is ideal for applique and each panel has dozens of patterns and designs that have been selected to perfectly coordinate. Use them for embroidery, quilting, stitching or collaging – they are the perfect partner to creating your own handmade style! If you are interested in seeing all the panels and some more fun projects, check out my YouTube video below.
