First of all, let me say how much I’ve enjoyed reading the posts from this week’s Stitched Style blog tour. I love everyone’s ideas, inspiration and enthusiasm for embroidery. I’m excited to be sharing these designs with everyone, and helping some folks win an embroidery kit so they can get stitching right away! The idea for Indygo Junction’s Stitched Style was sparked by my SoHo Bandana fabric line, which we released with Red Rooster fabrics last spring. For that line I found inspiration in vintage bandana designs and made them suitable for a contemporary audience using stylized designs and colors. The end result was my favorite fabric collection to date.
We used Crossroads Denim in Fire Red to create the Rojo Business Card Case from Stitched Style.
When I was working on SoHo I realized how the different design elements that made the overall fabric prints could be broken out and stand alone. I felt like all the great flowers, paisleys, leaves and other organic motifs would shine as embroidery designs. We started test stitching some projects using our elemental designs on our new Crossroads Denim fabric, and the result was fantastic. The Crossroads Denim was a perfect weight to embroider on, and the bright colors made the stitching stand out. Stitched Style was born!
The applique and embroidery techniques were used to embellish an up-cycled denim jacket.
The book includes 65 embroidery designs (available in multiple sizes and styles) and 20 projects. There are smaller projects such as business card cases, bracelets and eyeglass cases, and larger ideas for embellishing patterns and even updating your wardrobe using up-cycled denim and embroidery. If you prefer to machine embroidery , you can get the Stitched Style designs through the SoHo Bandana collection from OESD.
Here we used a reverse applique technique from Stitched Style on our Manhattan Messenger Bag pattern. Also, note the Crossroads Trench in the background. All made from Crossroads Denim!
