No other party time of all the year holds quite the possibilities of Halloween. It is “fun time” pure and simple. Decorations and games, weird and ghostly, and refreshments of an informal nature are a matter of tradition. Unexpected surprises always add to the fun of a Halloween party. We heard about a party where in the middle of dancing, the doorbell rang and in came a street cleaner, dressed in work clothes and flourishing a big broom. Talking a lot in mixed English and Italian he used the broom to sweep the company right and left. The hostess pretended to argue with him, but he kept right on, announcing that as long as you can’t dance in peace, you might as well go to supper, sweeping them into the dining room.

I love Autumn in Kansas City and decorating our front porch for Halloween is a favorite family activity. With spiders, lots of webs, and scary masks, it is “fun-time pure and simple,” as much for me as the kids. Unexpected surprises can make a party memorable. ~ Amy
